RH Classes Swifts

Spring 2018

Year 2 are travelling to China this half term and learning all about Chinese New Year as part of our festivals topic. Our first two weeks will be all about dragons! Children will learn all about dragons as part of Chinese culture, write dragon poems and even make dragon masks. Later on in the term we will be continuing with the theme of fire by looking at the Great Fire of London. Staying healthy is also a key area we will be looking at. We will learn all about exercise, healthy eating and medicine safety. We are all looking forward to reading our new story book, The Magic Paintbrush by Julia Donaldson.

Autumn 2017

This term the children will be travelling on a seaside adventure. Our story book is 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. We will be learning all about the seaside, sea creatures and even Punch and Judy! Keep a look out for our Enterprise Day later on this term where we will be running a seaside fair for visitors. We hope to see you there.

Spring 2017

As the New Year dawned we welcomed a new teacher to our classroom – Miss Woodhead from George Spencer Academy worked with us for the first 6 weeks of the term and helped us go on a Chinese adventure as we explored Chinese New Year as part of our Festivals topic. We tried Chinese food, learned to speak a little Chinese and wrote to a school in China. Our topic ended in a very atmospheric way as we danced with our class dragon on the playground in front of parents as flakes of snow drifted down!

 

In the second half of the term we continued with the theme of fire that had started with our work on dragons as we explored the Great Fire of London. We re-lived the events of 1666 by building old London town in the hall in our drama and dance lessons as well as exploring a Minecraft version of the city compete with ringing bells and blazing fires. In our PSHCE lessons we explored ways of saying ‘No’ in a positive way before thinking about comfortable and uncomfortable touches while Miss Day helped us to design and make puppets during our second Design and Technology project.
